Description
A delicious recipe for Fig and Cream Cheese Bars that combines the sweetness of figs with creamy cheese for a delightful treat.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup dried figs, chopped
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
- In a small bowl, combine the chopped figs with 1/4 cup of hot water. Let them soak for about 10 minutes to soften, then drain and set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with the granulated sugar until smooth and creamy. Add the vanilla extract and cinnamon, mixing until well combined.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the cream cheese mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Stir in the melted butter, egg, and soaked figs (and walnuts if using) until fully incorporated.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the bars to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Cut into squares and serve.
Notes
- For a touch of sweetness, drizzle honey or maple syrup over the bars before serving.
- Substitute dried figs with other dried fruits like apricots or cranberries for a different flavor profile.
