Description
A delicious and indulgent recipe for Hong Kong-Style French Toast, perfect for breakfast or brunch.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 slices of thick white bread
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup whole milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter (for frying)
- Maple syrup (for serving)
- Powdered sugar (for garnish)
- Peanut butter or sweetened condensed milk (optional, for spreading)
Instructions
- In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
- Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and add the butter, allowing it to melt and coat the surface.
- Take one slice of bread and dip it into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are well coated. Let any excess drip off.
- Place the coated bread slice onto the skillet and repeat with the second slice. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Once cooked, remove the French toast from the skillet and place it on a plate. If desired, spread peanut butter or drizzle sweetened condensed milk on one slice before stacking them.
- Serve warm, topped with maple syrup and a dusting of powdered sugar.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use brioche or challah bread instead of white bread.
- Add sliced bananas or strawberries on top for a fruity twist.
