Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C).
  2. Grease four ramekins or one medium baking dish generously with butter or olive oil.
  3. In a medium mixing bowl, crack the eggs and whisk them together until fully combined. Gradually add in the whole milk and heavy cream, mixing until smooth.
  4. Gently fold in your choice of cheese and fresh herbs into the egg mixture.
  5. Pour the custard mixture evenly into the prepared ramekins, filling them about three-quarters full.
  6. Place the filled ramekins in a deep baking pan and carefully pour hot water into the pan until halfway up the sides of the ramekins.
  7. Transfer the baking pan to the preheated oven and bake for 30–35 minutes for ramekins or 35–40 minutes for a larger dish.
  8. Once baked, remove the custard from the oven and let it rest for about 5 minutes before serving.
