Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar for coating
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon for coating

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the melted butter and milk together. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until a soft dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently for about 1 minute until smooth.
  4. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and roll each piece into a ball. Flatten each ball into a disk about 1/4 inch thick.
  5. In a large skillet or deep frying pan, heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil over medium heat until hot (around 350°F).
  6. Fry the disks in batches, cooking for about 1-2 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Remove them with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  7. In a small bowl, combine the 1/2 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon. While the buñuelos are still warm, toss them in the cinnamon sugar mixture until coated.
