  • cookie scoop
  • Slotted Spoon
  • Deep skillet or saucepan
  • Candy thermometer

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Prepare the Angel Cake: Follow package instructions for angel cake mix until smooth and fluffy. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for about 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let cool completely.
  2. Form the Cake Balls: Scoop small portions of the angel cake and roll them into bite-sized balls approximately the size of golf balls.
  3. Mix the Churro Coating: Combine sugar and cinnamon in a bowl. Adjust sweetness or spice to your liking and set aside.
  4. Heat the Oil for Frying: Fill a deep skillet or saucepan with vegetable oil, about 2 inches deep. Heat to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Fry the Cake Balls: Carefully add the balls to hot oil in batches. Fry for 2-3 minutes until golden brown, turning gently with a slotted spoon.
  6. Coat the Churro Bites: Remove from oil and immediately roll in cinnamon-sugar mixture while hot to ensure the coating sticks.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Place coated bites on paper towels to absorb excess oil. Serve warm, optionally with chocolate sauce for dipping.
