Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients: all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix sugar and vegetable oil until smooth. Add eggs, buttermilk, and red food coloring, stirring until combined.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring gently until just combined.
  5. Divide the batter evenly into the prepared pans and smooth the tops. Bake for 25–30 minutes.
