Ingredients

  • 2 slices of thick white bread
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter for frying
  • Maple syrup for serving
  • Powdered sugar for garnish
  • Peanut butter or sweetened condensed milk optional, for spreading

Method

  1. In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
  2. Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and add the butter, allowing it to melt and coat the surface.
  3. Take one slice of bread and dip it into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are well coated. Let any excess drip off.
  4. Place the coated bread slice onto the skillet and repeat with the second slice. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Once cooked, remove the French toast from the skillet and place it on a plate. If desired, spread peanut butter or drizzle sweetened condensed milk on one slice before stacking them.
  6. Serve warm, topped with maple syrup and a dusting of powdered sugar.
